Volunteer

Our mission statement says that we are here to “further the common goal and general welfare of the people of the community….” and in order to do that; we must be well organized, dedicated, and creative.  It also means that we all serve, and that seems to be part of the beauty of this club.  We have found that as we serve the needs of others, we get some of our own needs met.  Our need for friendship, purpose, and inspiration seems to be addressed as we take our attention off ourselves, and focus on others.

The Greater Keller Women's Club has no mandatory volunteer hours required, as we have learned that the best relationships are formed when we do things together.  Although we don’t have a certain number of hours required, we do track how much time we spend volunteering in order to keep our tax-exempt 501 (c) (3) status.

Volunteering together is fun with the GKWC, and very satisfying personally.  The variety of services needed allows for a good fit for everyone. We get some great “chat time” while running a registration table for a local charity, decorating a Christmas tree for the firehouse, or planning a fashion show.  And, the satisfaction of reading to a child or helping with a senior citizen function leaves us with those “warm fuzzy’s” that are sometimes rare in these hectic, self indulgent lives we find ourselves caught up in.

We encourage everyone to find serving opportunities that line up with their skills and passion.  Our aim is to “further the welfare” of the community, and that includes you!  We plan for each volunteer experience to be positive and helpful for both the volunteer and those being served.

If you want to step out of yourself, but not get overwhelmed or over-committed, we have short term volunteer opportunities offered as your time and desire dictates.  Our Community Service chair organizes these opportunities and you are invited to contact her at communityservice@gkwc.org or visit the calendar to see what’s coming up that may be of interest to you. One of our core values as a group of women who really want to make a difference in the lives of those around us is volunteerism, and we think it will make a difference in all of us!  That’s why we often say we’re having fun, helping others.
